One Week to Get Your Bearings, Two to Really Enjoy Yourself

I bet we’ve all experienced that way in which a vacation becomes somehow magical in its second week. In the first week you get over your jet lag, find the things you enjoy doing in your new location, and generally get familiar enough with your new surroundings to be able to relax and enjoy yourself.

I’ve spent one week in Paris and one week in Tunisia, so this week — the third of my trip — will be my second in Paris. I definitely have my bearings and feel more comfortable and more relaxed here. Everything seems just familiar enough to be exciting without being intimidating or overwhelming. Today I took the metro all over town, and at every station but one, the train rolled up just as I was stepping onto the platform. It was amazing. It was like the city itself was welcoming me. Well, it was more like the metro system was welcoming me, but I’ll take what I can get. It’s going to be a great week.
